Kym Marsh Biography

Kym Marsh was born on June 13, 1976, in Merseyside, England as Kimberley Gail Marsh. She is an actress known for Coronation Street (1960), Doctors (2000) and Holby City (1999). She is singer and songwriter who reached to fame in 2000 after winning a place in the band Hear’Say on popstars.

Kym Marsh Early Life

Kym was born to Pauline Marsh and David Marsh. She I the youngest of four children having a sister, Tracy. She has two brothers, David and John. Kym raised in Garswood, in the Metropolitan Borough of St Helens, Merseyside. She went to Elliot Clarke Stage School in Liverpool for two years, but she was unhappy there as she was the only one day to sing there and decided to leave when she was 15. After leaving school, she got some jobs including receptionist and a shop assistant.

Kym provided session vocals for artists including Matt Darey, the group Freaky Realistic and the duo Hemstock & Jennings. She sang on the latter’s track “arctic” in Norwegian. Which attracted the attention of Paul Van Dyk and remixed and recorded with additional vocals from Jan Johnston. The track given the name “nothing but you” released in the UK through Positiva and peaked number 14 on the UK charts.

In late 2000, Kym gave the audition for the ITV talent show Popstars. She was one of the five singers chosen for the newly formed band HearSay along with Danny Foster, Myleene Klass, Suzanne Shaw and Noel Sullivan.

In March 2001, HearSay released their first single ”pure and simple” a cover of the track by Girl Thing. The song reached no 1 in the UK singles chart in March 2001, selling 550,000 copies. The group then released the second single “the way to your love” in June 2001. The song became the second consecutive number 1 single. After that, the group toured the UK.

2002-2006

In Jan 2002, Kym announced that she is leaving HearSay, so the auditions held for the replacement for her, but the group split up in Oct 2002.

Kym signed a solo record deal with Island Records. Her first single reached no 2 in the UK Singles Chart and her second single “come on over” carried it to no 10.

In July 2003, Kym released her debut solo album, Standing Tall, which reached no 9 in the UK. It contained three solo songs and 12 other tracks. Her third single “sentimental reached at no 35 and that resulted in her being dropped by her record label.

In early 2006, Kym made her step in Making Your Mind Up, that is a show intended to pick a singer and a song for the UK entry in the Eurovision Song Contestant. With song “whisper to me” Kym got 4th place in the show as a contestant.

Kym marsh started her television career in 2005 by working in an episode of the BBC one soap opera ‘doctors,’ playing a role called Ruth Parry. In the same year, she became a regular panelist on ITV’s daytime show Loose Women for its 8th season.

In 2006, she played a significant role in one episode of Channel 4’s soap opera ‘in the city.’

She emerged as a presenter on the X Factor final in Dec 2008. She presented for Alexandra Burke in North London, which hometown of Burke.

Kym joined the cast of Coronation Street by playing Michelle Connor from April 3, 2006, onwards. Due to her awesome role, she got newcomer awards at the 2007 British Soap Awards and the 2007 National Television Awards. She became a regular character, and her role included a serious relationship with Steve McDonald finding that her son had been swapped at birth, the death of her eldest brother and murder of her second brother, and her failed engagement.

2008

In 2008, as the character dominated more storylines, some fans began to tire of her as well as her behavior. The baby-swap storyline panned by critics and fans. In contrast, the 2017 stillbirth storyline as well as the performance of marsh received good comments and praised by Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Society (SANDS). Kym, whose real son was also stillborn, told that it was important for her to take on the storyline to raise awareness of the issue. She also talked about the change in the law which would see stillborn children receive birth certificates. It was the best way for Kym to honor her son. Later she won 2017 British Soap Award for best female dramatic performance.

Kym Marsh has a son named David who was born in 1995 and a daughter named Emilie who was born in 1995 from her close relationship with Dave Cunliffe. The actress married the actor Jack Ryder in St Albans on Aug 10, 2002. The announcement was that the pair has decided to separate and would be seeking a divorce. They cleared about their divorce in 2009.

Kym Marsh dated the actor Jamie Lomas from July 2008 onwards. They married in Cheshire in Sep 2012. Both of them announced a baby in 2009. Birth of their son took place 18 weeks early, so he died after birth. On March 23, 2011, Kym gave birth to a daughter, Polly.

Marsh filmed a documentary for ITV about premature births called “born to sworn,” and in 2010 she assisted to organize and spoke at a gala to collect money for special care baby charity Bliss.

In Oct 2012, she told that she known as Kym Lomas, not as Kym Marsh.  She filed for divorce from her second husband in Oct 2013, which finalized in Jan 2014 and she reverted to the name Kym Marsh.

In Jan 2015, her daughter Emilie was one of the girls who gave audition for 4th series of The Voice UK. She was there as family support for her daughter, but her daughter was not successful there.

In May 2017, a wax figure of her added to the gallery of Madame Tussauds Blackpool.

In Jan 2010, Kym marsh shoed her participation in the first series of ‘popstar to opera star.’ She was voted out in the 5th week, along with Marcella Detroit, after receiving 135 of all public votes.
