Caitlyn Jenner Biography

Caitlyn Marie Jenner, professionally known as Caitlyn Jenner was born on Oct 28, 1949, in New York, United States. She is an American TV personality and retired Olympic gold medal-winning decathlete. She has been active since 1970.

Jenner was born to Esther Ruth and William Hugh Jenner. Her father was an arborist. She has two sisters, Lisa and Pam. Her younger brother, Burt, was killed in a car accident in Canton, on Nov 30, 1976, shortly after the success of Jenner at the Olympic Games. As a child, she was diagnosed with dyslexia.

Jenner went to Sleepy Hollow High School in Sleepy Hollow, New York, for her freshman and sophomore years. Then she attended Newtown high school in Newtown for her junior and senior years, graduating in 1968. She got a football scholarship and attended Graceland College in Lowa, but she was compelled to stop playing football due to a knee injury. Recognizing the potential of Jenner, her coach Weldon provided her courage to switch to the decathlon at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, lowa. She did graduate from Graceland college in 1973 with a degree in physical education.

Jenner was in 5th place in the men’s decathlon, at the 1972 US Olympic trials in Eugene, Oregon. Jenner qualified the Olympic team by running a fast final lap, finishing 22 seconds ahead of other runners. She was inspired to start an intense training regimen.

After graduating from Graceland, Jenner married girlfriend Chrystie and shifted in California. Her friend provided most of the family income by working as flight attendant for United Airlines. Jenner trained during the day and sold insurance at night earning the US $9000 a year. Jenner trained at the San Jose City College and San Jose State University tracks. Mot successful events of Jenner were the skill events like hurdles, pole vault, javelin and 1500 meters.

In 1974, Jenner was the American champion in the men’s decathlon event and was cast on the cover of Track & Field News magazine’s August 1974 issue. While on tour in 1975, she won the French national championship and a gold medal at the 1975 Pan American Games, earning the tournament record with 8,045 points. This achievement was followed by new world records of 8,545 points at the US, USSR, Poland triangular meet in Eugene in 1975.

1976-1986

At the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal, Jenner got the five personal bests on the very first day of men’s decathlon. Jenner was so confident that she also carried the second day. After the event, Jenner took an American flag and carried it during the victory lap, starting a tradition that is now common among the winning athletes.

Jenner stated that “in 1972, I made the decision that I would go four years and dedicate myself to what I was doing and then I would move after it was over with. I went into that competition knowing that would be the last time I would ever do this”. As a result of winning the Olympic decathlon, Jenner became a national hero and received James E. Sullivan Award as the top amateur athlete in the US and named the Associated Press Male Athlete of the year in 1976.

Jenner inducted into the US National Track and Field Hall of Fame in 1980, the only Olympic hall in 1986. For about 20 years, San Jose City College hosted an annual Bruce Jenner Invitational Competition.

In 1977, Jenner became the spokesperson for Wheaties brand breakfast cereal and appeared in an iconic photograph on the cover of the cereal box. She was second in succession of athlete featured as spokespersons for the brand.

Jenner was cast in a comedy in 1980, “can’t stop the music.” The film was not successful, but Jenner got prominence in the media career. She got some success with a TV career, starring in the made for TV movies The Golden Moment and White Tiger.

During 1981 to 1982, Jenner became a regular cast member in the police series “chips.” She also remained a significant figure in “silver spoons.” She emerged in the series “learn to read” and in the video games “Olympic decathlon” in 1981.  In 1989, Jenner played herself in the comedy short “dirty tennis” written by James Van.

Jenner has also emerged in many game shows and reality TV programs.

In Jan 2002, Jenner worked in an episode of the American series “The Weakest Link,” featuring Olympic athletes. In March 2003, she was also a part of American series “I am a celebrity, get me out of here.” She made a cameo appearance in the season 3 episode in The Apprentice which aired in May 2005.

Jenner has starred in the E reality series “keeping up with the Kardashians” along with wife Kris Jenner.

In 2011, she emerged in Adam Sandler comedy “Jack and Jill” in a scene with Pacino as an actor in the play. In Sep 2016, Jenner appeared as herself on Amazon Prime TV series. Transparent in a dream sequence during the season three episode, “to sardines and back.”

Jenner remained a successful race car driver in the IMSA Camel GT series in the 1980s.

Jenner also made her name in the field of business.

As for as politics is concerned, Jenner leans towards political conservatism and is also a Republican. In Feb 2017, president Trump rescinded federal requirements giving transgender students. The right to chose the school restroom matching their gender identity.

She has been married three times, first to Chrystie from 1972 to 1981. They have two children, son, Burt and daughter, Casey.

She married actress Linda in 1981. They have two sons, Brander and Sam. They divorced in 1986.

In 1991, she married Kris, and they have two daughters. They also announced their separation in 2013.

She is in favor of same-gender marriage. In July 2017, she also declared that she was contemplating running. In the 2018 race for the US Senate to represent California.

She also condemned Trump for a ban on transgender people from serving in the military.
