Helen Skelton Biography

Helen Elizabeth Skelton was born on July 19, 1983, in Cumbia, England. She is an English television presenter and actress, best known for co-presenting the BBC children’s program Blue Peter from 2008 to 2013 and as an occasional presenter on Countryfile. Helen Skelton has been active since1999. She is the employer of BBC and ITV. She is also called by name Myler.

Helen Skelton co-presented two series of BBC One program “Holiday Hit Squad” alongside Angela Rippon and Joey Crowley. Skelton is the current presenter of all swimming coverage on the BBC including European Swimming Championships, World aquatics championships, and the Olympics. She also currently presents daytime series “The Instant Gardener.”

She was born in England, and she was grown up on a dairy farm in the village of Kirby Thore. Helen Skelton attended Kirkby Thore Primary School and then went to Appleby Grammar School. She got her graduation from Cumbria Institute of the Arts where gained BA degree in journalism. During her period at college, she worked as an extra on Coronation Street and Cutting It.

Helen Skelton is a qualified tap dance teacher, and she told that if she were not a broadcaster, then she would be a teacher. In Dec 2012, she took part in a Christmas special edition of the BBC One Program Strictly Come Dancing. Her brother Gavin is a professional footballer and he also been a player-manager.

After her short time work in public relations, She decided to pay attention to journalism. Helen Skelton worked in the newsroom at CFM radio and involved with various programs at Border Television before becoming a breakfast presenter on BBC Radio Cumbria in 2005. She was the youngest breakfast show presenter on the BBC network. She was then a reporter and occasional presenter on children’s news program News around and its weekend sports based version, Sports round.

Helen Skelton emerged as a new Blue Peter presenter on August 28, 2008, replacing Zoe Salman and becoming a 33rd presenter for the program. In a challenge for the show, she made an uncredited role in the BBC production of Merlin. In Aug 2013, she told about her departure from the show; she replaced by Radzi. She worked on other projects during her period with Blue Peter mainly correspondent based. These included reporting from the Championships, Wimbledon.

After her departure from Blue Peter, she became a presenter of live FA Women’s Super League football matches for the BT Sports channel, as well as retaining her BBC reporter roles.

She has also occasionally presented segments of Countryfile since 2008 and presented two series of Holiday Hit Squad in 2013 and 2014 alongside Angela and Joe. In 2k14 and 2k15 she presented the London Marathon Highlights show on the BBC. Helen Skelton replaced by Ore Oduba in 2016.

2015:

Since 2015, Skelton has been co-presenting daytime BBC One series “The Instant Gardener” alongside Danny Clarke, in early 2016, she worked for Tonights Kids V Career. In the same year, she also presented five episodes of Lorraine on ITV. She presented more five episodes in Feb 2017. She co-presented two episodes of “Walks With My Dog” on More 4 in 2017.

Helen Skelton also hosted coverage of the 2016 European Swimming Championships with Mark Foster and Rebecca. She worked for the BBC at the 2016 summer Olympics presenting swimming coverage. In 2k17, Helen Skelton returned to host the swimming coverage on the BBC World aquatic Championships with Adlington and Foster.

In Dec 2013, she got married to England national rugby league team player Richie Myler. Helen Skelton delivered her first child on June 19, 2015, named Ernie. After Myler joined the Catalans Dragons club, they departed to France in Sep 2015. Their second son, Louis was born in April 2017.

Helen Skelton Challenges and Success

In April 2009, she became only the second woman to finish the 78-miles Namibian ultra Marathon. She completed the race in 23 hours and 45 minutes, just 15 minutes under the time limit of 1 day after some weeks, she also completed the 2009 London Marathon.

She achieved two Guinness World Records, the longest solo journey by kayak, and the longest distance in a kayak in 24 hours by a woman.

Helen Skelton walked a 150m tightrope between chimneys at Battersea Power Station, 66metres above ground to raise money for Comic Relief in 2011.

In 2012, Helen also raised money for sports relief by being the first person to reach south pole using a bicycle. The bike was custom built up for her trip, with 8 inches wide tires. She also used skis and a kite to help her pull a sled containing 82 kg of supplies.

In 2013, wanting to inspire Blue Peter viewers to do something to support comic relief, she took seven challenges set by comic relief while breaking one world record. She called this series her “Magnificent 7” a reference to 1960 western The Magnificent Seven.
