Chip Foose Biography:

Chip Foose is a famous American automobile designer and the host of the “Overhaulin” that is a popular Velocity’s reality TV series. His father, Sam Foose, the owner of the company named “Project Design” located in Santa Barbara, California, United States, and Chip Foose worked in this company when he was only seven years old. He studied in Art Centre College of Design. Chip worked with several companies from time to time. He worked for Sterenberger Design, for Boyd Coddington, for J Mays at Ford and so on. He became famous for the well-known designs he gave to Coddington which include Boydster I and Boydster II. As Boyd was facing bankruptcy, Foose left the company and launched his own automotive and product design company and named it as Foose Design in Huntington Beach, California, United States.

In 2003, he became even more famous after the TLC documentary on his designs and the creation of the modified 2002 Ford Thunderbird that also called Speedbird. Childhood and Early Life of Chip Foose:

Chip Foose was born on 13th October 1963 in Santa Barbara, California, United States. His father’s name was Sam Foose, and he owned a company namely “Project Design.” His mother’s name was Terry Foose. He has two sisters, Amy Michelle Foose and Jodi Foose, a wife Lynne Foose and two children, Brock Foose and Katie Foose.

Chip Foose worked in his father’s company from seven years ago. In the company, he met Alex Tremulis who was a famous Ford and Preston Tucker designer. He encouraged by Alex and joined Art Centre College of design in 1982. Due to some financial crisis, he dropped out of the college in the year 1984. Then he worked for Clenet Coachwork for the next almost four years and then turned back to complete his education. He succeeds in completing the graduation degree from Art Centre College of Design in 1990.

Chip Foose Career:

After his graduation in the year 1990, he worked for two different companies at the same time, part-time work for Boyd Coddington and full-time work for Sterenberger Design. He left the work from Sterebberger Design in the year 1993 and started to work for J Mays at Ford. After some time, Coddington convinced him to work for him wholly. Due to his hard-working, he became the president of Hot Rods by Boyd, the Coddington’s company. Most of the well-known creations of the Coddington’s company such as Boydster I and Boydster II were designed by Foose.

Foose Design Company:

In the year 1998 when Hot Rods by Boyd was under bankruptcy, Foose left the company and with his wife, Lynne, launched his own automotive and product design company and named it as Foose Design in Huntington Beach, California, United States. Most of the talented people of Coddington Boyd such as Mike and Charlie also left the company soon after Foose launched his shop. This increased the distance between Foose and Coddington.

On Television:-

In 2003, he became even more famous after the TLC documentary on his designs. The creation of the modified 2002 Ford Thunderbird that also called Speedbird. Later Works of Chip Foose:

He started the limited production of the Hemisfear (50 vehicles) and also called Foose Coupe. It designed by him in 1990 and displayed at SEMA trade show in November 2006. He continues to work at Foose Design and the program “Overhaulin.” Though the program opped at the end of 2009, but again aired on Discovery Turbo. After the creation of channel Velocity, it runs on this channel.

  • Chip Foose became the youngest ever person to be inducted in into the Hot Rod Hall of Fame in the year 1997. He also inducted into the Darryl Starbird Rod & Custom Car Museum Hall of Fame, the Grand National Roadster Show Hall of Fame, the Detroit Autorama “Circle of Champions” Hall of Fame and the San Francisco Rod and Custom Motorcycle Hall of Fame in the years 2002, 2003, 2012 and 2005 respectively.
  • He won four times the Ridler Award in the years 2002, 2003, 2005 and 2015.
  • Chip also won the Most Beautiful Roadster Award in the years 1995, 1996, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2003, 2006 and 2014.
  • His another award was the Goodguys Street Rod of the Year Award in 1990, 1991, 1995, 1997, 1999, 2001 and 2010
  • He also inducted into the Diecast Hall of Fame in the year 2009.
  • He also won the award of the Best Hot Rod at Bilsport Performance Show in the year 2011.

Personal Life of Chip Foose:

Chip Foose married Lynne, and they blessed with two children Brock Foose and Katie Foose. Nowadays they all are living in Southern California, United States.

Chip Foose also interested in humanitarian and charity works. He is the vice chairman of the California Chapter of Progeria Research Foundation. Most of his charities go to children’s foundations and organizations like Childhelp and Victory Junction Gang Camp. Due to his charities for children, he also gave the name grand marshal of SEMA’s Show N Shine public car show.
